Chronic Heartburn

Chronic heartburn is a very annoying and painful condition that thousands upon thousands of individuals suffer from all around the world. The number of individuals that suffer from this condition continues to climb every single year.

A big factor that could very well be a huge contributor to the heartburn pain a person feels who has this condition is the fact that many individuals in our society today are accustomed to the many conveniences that we are offered in our fast paced society. One of these much-enjoyed conveniences is the tremendous amount of fast food restaurants that seem to be located everywhere that you look. Chronic heartburn can definitely be something a person will experience when they constantly choose to eat many of the greasy items and heartburn foods that can so easily be found in these types of restaurants.

If the acids in your stomach has caused an erosion to occur in the LES or lower esophagus sphincter muscles, or if it has become weakened by the process that occurs when the acids of your stomach continuously rise up into the esophagus it will result in the individual experiencing the symptoms of having chronic heartburn. When this muscle becomes eroded or weakened the acids in the stomach are then allowed to travel into the esophagus and cause a tremendous amount of pain.

If you are continually experiencing this painful condition it is wise to see your family physician and let him determine what your condition is actually being caused from. There are other more serious problems that could be causing your heartburn symptoms, such as GERD, a hiatal hernia, gall bladder disease, a peptic ulcer, or even a tear that has occurred in the esophagus. There are various tests that your physician or specialist can perform that will aid in the determination of what may be causing the problems that you may be having.

The good news is there are a variety of different medications that your family physician can prescribe for you to take, to help alleviate many of the painful symptoms that you may be experiencing with chronic heartburn. As part of the treatment plan that your doctor chooses, you may also be required to change a few things in your lifestyle, such as the foods that you eat and many of the drinks that you consume. Both of these can play a large part in the amount of heartburn that an individual may experience.
