Heartburn Symptoms

There are a variety of heartburn symptoms that an individual might feel if they find themselves to be suffering from the painful and very bothersome effects that are often associated with the experience of heartburn.

Heartburn pain is one of the most widely known complaints that a physician hears frequently, that a large number of people experience in the digestive system.

With the onset of the symptoms of heartburn, what the individual is generally experiencing is the acids that are found in the stomach will begin to enter into the esophagus area of the body, or the tube that connects your mouth with your stomach. When this problem occurs the individual will start to feel the irritation that has occurred in the esophagus along various unprotected areas of the lining in this tube, and it ultimately causes that person to experience the painful heartburn symptoms that are very noticeable when they have heartburn.

The painful and extremely bothersome heartburn symptoms that a person may experience are a feeling that they are bloated, excessive burping, and they may even feel the actual liquid that comes up into their throat from their stomach. This liquid can sometimes cause the person to notice a sour or bitter taste in their mouth. These symptoms may also worsen for some individuals when they either bend over or lie down.

When a person’s heartburn happens to be caused by gastro esophageal reflux disease, there are other heartburn symptoms that they may experience, such as a chronic cough, problems with sleeping, hoarseness, asthma, laryngitis, a tightness in their throat, bad breath, wheezing, ear infection, sore throat, dental erosion, and even sinus infections.

Heartburn can be a very serious problem for some individuals, especially if it accompanied with abdominal pain, or bleeding, or both. These particular heartburn symptoms could very well be a sign that they are suffering from a peptic ulcer, a possible tear in their esophagus, inflammation in their stomach, or even problems with their gall bladder. If a person notices that their stools have begun to be dark or they are vomiting blood, this could very well be an indication that they may be bleeding from either the stomach or the esophagus. If any of these conditions occur it is extremely important to contact your family physician immediately. Many times heartburn treatment can be easily obtained with over the counter medication, but if they notice this is a persistent problem it could mean a much more serious condition and it should be checked into.  Also, if you are experiencing pregnancy heartburn, it is best to talk to your caregiver before taking over the counter medicines.
