Pregnancy Heartburn

The frustration of experiencing pregnancy heartburn is a painful and bothersome problem that thousands and thousands of pregnant women experience every single year.

 

 A large number of women who experience heartburn symptoms after they have become pregnant never had experienced it at any other time in their life. Generally this is a widely known problem that can be caused while you are pregnant because of the increased levels in the amount of hormones that are now in your body. When the normal balance of your hormones is interrupted as in during pregnancy, the ligaments that help to keep the LES or lower esophageal sphincter closed tightly become softened and this can often cause you to experience pregnancy heartburn pain.

When a woman is pregnant, the placenta produces progesterone, which is the hormone that helps to smooth and relax the uterus muscles during pregnancy. This hormone can also make the process of digestion dull by relaxing the contractions that can be described as wave-like in both your intestines and in your esophagus. As your baby begins to grow in your uterus, the abdominal cavity is pushed into a position where the stomach acids may begin to back up towards the esophagus.

It is very important for women who are experiencing pregnancy heartburn on a continuous or chronic level to immediately consult with your medical practitioner. However, if this is a bothersome problem that you find you only experience on occasion, there are a variety of different tips that may minimize or reduce the painful heartburn causes that you are experiencing.

Making sure to eat small meals at various times during the day instead of three regular meals, can often help tremendously in women who experience this problem. When you eat too close to bedtime it can sometimes worsen this problem, so it is best to eat your final meal approximately two hours before you decide to go to bed. Watching the type of foods that you eat can also normally reduce pregnancy heartburn. It is best to try to avoid any type of food that contains a large amount of acid. Foods that have been fried, citrus type fruits and juices, and soft drinks are very popular food items that are called heartburn foods and are known to cause this painful and annoying problem in women who are pregnant. Another thing that can be helpful is to try to always bend at your knees when you need to learn over, instead of bending at the waist.
